SYNOPSIS

JUNOis a veteran whose PTSD and chronic pain led to opioid abuse disorder. She was able to stay off the streets because ARCHIE invited her to live in Junction Row - an international community on the fringes of society. It is a place where the underworld of drugs and crime exist in harmony with laissez-faire, communal life. Now, Juno has left Junction Row. She's off the drugs and working towards a better future in mainstream society, but she's anchored by her wartime trauma and guilt at leaving her companion, RUBY behind. MILES her old dealer from the community tells her that Ruby is missing and when an unfortunate event forces Juno to lay low, she finds herself back at the gates of her old stomping ground. Juno reconnects with Archie, who is at odds with the new leader of a local gang, HUGO. Hugo is dealing a mysterious new drug that is ravaging the community and sending many of its USERS into the tunnels below the camp. Juno believes Ruby to be one of those Users and she breaks into the tunnels in search of her friend, only to find a hellscape that makes her wartime traumas seem trivial in comparison. She discovers the missing Users have fallen under the control of a hidden CREATURE that uses a drug they call "The Link" to control them, while they unknowingly gestate and feed its offspring. They want Juno to join them. When Juno finds Miles in the tunnels, the two are forced to fight their way out against The Creature's babies (Hatchlings) and the Users. Upon their escape, Miles leaves Juno to be overpowered by Hugo and her gang, who deliver Juno to the doorstep of The Symbiote-Ruby. She has melded with The Creature and her mind has been taken over. Juno appeals to Ruby's true self and manages to get through to her, but her world is shattered when Miles shoots Ruby in the belief that it will help him regain power on his old turf. Meanwhile, Archie is staging a coup with the other VILLAGERS to wrest power back from Hugo. The Villagers and The Gang are on the brink of battler when Ruby's death triggers a massive retaliation from the Hatchlings and Users. Bloody chaos ensues and the human casualties are high. Archie finds Juno and pulls her out of her downwards spiral, persuading her to stand and fight. Juno's mind is clear now and her determination has returned. She takes control and unites the factions in the camp to take on the Users and successfully drive the Hatchlings back underground. Juno and Archie team up to set fire to the tunnels, but Juno blindsided Archie, locking him out to go take on The Creature alone. When Juno Confronts the creature, we see that she's not there to fight. She submits to it and allows it to connect with her as it did with Ruby. It's all she's ever wanted since she left - painless euphoria and the chance to never be alone again... But she secretly has a plan to sacrifice herself in order to ensure The Creatures' destruction. She finds the strength to fight the thrall and is about to bring an end to it all when Miles appears. Miles has learned that he is infected with Hatchlings - his death is likely. He's desperate to find a way to save his tarnished soul before he dies. He wants to sacrifice himself. Juno has no sympathy for him and she takes advantage of the opportunity, killing him and The Creature in one shot and escaping to the surface in an explosive finale. But nothing is ever that easy...
